Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar is a Brit-American sitar player and music artist. She is the youngest woman and the first to receive an official British House of Commons shield. Anoushka is a new star on the rise in Indian sitar. She is Ravi Shankar's student as well as his daughter of Ravi Shankar. Her birthplace was in London in 1982 and spent her early years shuttling between London and New Delhi. Her debut performance was on stage in New Delhi when she was only 13 years old. Then she relocated in Encinitas CA where she graduated from High School with honours in 1999. Anouskha is still a young woman, but she has a very remarkable career in the field of recording and performing. Her father was with her to numerous performances over several years. In 1998, she debuted her debut solo album Anourag. Her Grammy-nominated Live At Carnegie Hall album was released in 2002. The stage work she has done is extensive for she has appeared in all of the biggest venues in the world. The career of Anoushka goes far beyond the realm of music. Bapi the Love of My Live, a picture-biography that is dedicating to her dad Ravi Shankar was published in 2002. Also, in films in 2003 she was in the movie Dance Like a Man where she is a young Bharat Natyam dancer. Anoushka Shankar is currently a rising celebrity and her popularity will keep on growing. Anoushka Shankar was born and raised in England and spent a lot of her youth living between London and Delhi later relocating to California where she attended high school. Anoushka started her music studies when she was nine. A few years later she performed her music debut with the sitar Delhi for her father's 70th birthday party. Anoushka's father toured around the world with her and she was able to gain many new experiences. When she was still at her teens, Anoushka performed at Carnegie Hall in Peter Gabriel's WOMAD music festival. Her musicianship and talent have been recognized by British Parliament as being among the top at Asian Arts.
